  • ≡ Trump Expects To Meet N. Korean Leader In February

U.S. President Donald Trump says he is looking forward to meeting North Korean leader Kim Jong-un at the end of next month. Trump tweeted on Sunday that he had a great meeting with top representatives last week, referring to his encounter with North Korea's top negotiator, Kim Yong-chol. He also said the media was not giving his administration credit for the "tremendous progress" made between Pyongyang and Washington. Earlier, the U.S. president told reporters the location of his second summit with the North Korean leader had been picked but did not elaborate further. Vietnam, seen as the most likely venue, has reportedly already begun logistical preparations for the next Trump-Kim meeting.■ [2019.01.21]

Citing officials of several countries briefed on the ongoing talks, the Times said one subject under discussion is whether the North would freeze its nuclear fuel and weapons production during negotiations so that the country's arsenal does not grow while talks drag on. Although the North has stopped missile and nuclear testing since the summit with the U.S. last June, there are suspicions it has continued activities to build up its nuclear arsenal.■[2019.01.21]
