Disney's domination continues this week with the "The Lion King" remake on wide release.
The studio has had a very profitable year following the huge success of their Marvel films, the "Aladdin" remake and "Toy Story" sequel.
With Jon Favreau's "The Lion King" remake roaring into cinemas, it has faced a fierce backlash from some critics and industry observers over concerns of Disney's increasing market share and its dependence on existing content.
The latest remake has drawn mixed reactions with some praising its visuals, while others, echoing these issues, have argued it's regurgitating the same famous story with little more to add.
During the summer season, the Korean film industry typically responds emphatically to the Hollywood blockbuster onslaught.
This year, however, it will have to form a counter-attack in response to Disney's ever-growing presence that is resulting in fewer Korean films being released.
This begins next week with the release of Cho Chul-hyeon's period drama "The King's Letters" starring Song Kang-ho while Lee Sang-geun's action film "Exit" is released a week later.
