  • ≡ Hwaseong Serial Murder Suspect Already Questioned More Than Three Decades Ago

    Police say the main suspect in the Hwaseong serial murder case more than three decades ago was questioned at the time. The murders occurred between 1986 and 1991. An official from the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency said they plan to speak with the detectives that were in charge of the case then as well as examine materials that were collected at the time. The 56-year-old man denied any involvement in the murders during three recent rounds of questioning. He is currently serving a life sentence for a separate crime, raping and killing his wife's younger sister.■ [2019.09.23]

  • ≡ Two Koreas, UNC Jointly Repair JSA Facility Damaged By Typhoon

    The two Koreas and the U.S.-led United Nations Command have for the first time carried out joint work to repair a Joint Security Area facility that was damaged by a typhoon. According to the UNC, the roof of the Military Armistice Commission conference room was repaired earlier this month. It was damaged by strong winds from Typhoon Lingling. Ten North Korean officials reportedly crossed the Military Demarcation Line after getting approval from the United Nations Command to help with the work.■[2019.09.23]

  • ≡ Climate Change Accelerating With Last 5 Years Hottest On Record: Report

    A new report shows the world is failing to avert climate change, with the last five years being the hottest period on record. According to the World Meteorological Organization, climate change is accelerating with carbon dioxide levels some 20 percent higher than the previous 5-year record accumulated between 2011 and 2015. South Korea's average temperature over the last five years stood at 13.3 degrees Celsius, 0.3 degree higher than the previous five year period. This is a bigger jump than the global average increase of 0.1 degree. The WMO report comes ahead of a key U.N. climate summit in New York on Monday.■ [2019.09.23]

  • ≡ 'Game Of Thrones' Takes Home Outstanding Drama Series At Emmys

    American fantasy series "Game of Thrones" has won the top drama award at this year's Emmys. At a ceremony Sunday night in Los Angeles, producer David Benioff thanked the author whose novels were the basis of HBO's hit saga, saying it "all started in the demented mind of George R.R. Martin." The series ended its eight-season run this year. Peter Dinklage, named best supporting actor for "Game of Thrones,'' set a record for most wins for the same role, four, breaking a tie with Aaron Paul of ``Breaking Bad.'' Meanwhile, Billy Porter made history, becoming the first openly gay black man to win the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his work in the dance musical "Pose."     South Korean left-hander Ryu Hyun-jin hit his first home run to key the Los Angeles Dodgers' 7-4 come from behind victory over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday. He also tossed seven solid innings at Dodger Stadium, giving up three runs and six hits while striking out eight with no walks.
